This week's Illustration Friday prompt is empty. The first thing, really the only thing that comes to mind are the starving kids in Niger. Working for a news organization, I see the terrible images all day long and it haunts me.
Created in Adobe Illustrator, 4 color palette, using photo as reference.

A powerful image - I like it a lot and agree with Rob re: the limited pallete.

Another limited palette lover :) You did a great job with this image, the shadow is wonderful.
Your illustration is so powerful in its simplicity. The single figure washed out by the sun, the cracked dirt, the emaciated shadow, the monochromatic treatment...all convey the message that famine kills people one at a time. The border is a wonderful touch. I really like this.
powerful illustration ... the color is the color of Africa ... the drawing is heartbreaking.
I am right there with you Kim, just so haunting. You handled this the subject matter very well.
Powerful Image!
Very well done, evocative. :(
Wow, another illo that really speaks volumes! One pic as they say is worth a thousand words!
Very powerful image. Everything I might say has been said. But of all the images I'm looking at from Illustration Friday tonight, I'd say this one will be the one to stick with me into tomorrow...and maybe the next day.

Thank you all for your comments. It is heartbreaking and I wish we did not have the images to 'draw' on for these subjects.
Thought provoking and powerful image
Nice palette, powerful image and shadow. Great work !!!
Oh my gawd, what a powerful illustration.
Oh my - so haunting and so striking. You have such a gift for saying so much with simplicity. Thanks for reminding us.
Nice job, Kim. Powerful.
I was just writing Becky to say thank you for the comment. And realized (or made more apparent) that in the doing, drawing and creating, also makes ME stop and think about how blessed I am, take time to think about tragedy going on in our world and what I can do about it. Thank you everyone for your thoughtful comments.
Oh Kim, that's so evocative.... its all there.
beautiful and necessary reminder
The colours are beautifull...makes you start thinking about things
