Alien organisms

William Darrell describes his kinetic sculptures as “mechanically abstracted organisms,” animated forms that pulse, shimmy, and spin with lifelike motion. The London-based artist is inspired by the relationship between the organic and the mechanical along with the enticing, mesmerizing qualities of movement that can coax “fear or fascination” from the viewer. “There are cuttlefish that hypnotise their prey in order to catch them,” he says. “As an artist, I follow a similar method.” Found on This is Colossal

Life is like a rose

This is the first year in over 40 that I have not had at least one carved pumpkin at my front door. I usually have 6 or more. Once you start carving, you just can't stop.

I think with all that is going on with cleaning for my S-I-L, clearing up for upcoming moving in, just generally forgetting that the holiday is quickly approaching. Is it malaise? A brain disorder? A huge sense of being overwhelmed comes to mind. I do hope it is not here to stay, but as I have said throughout the year ... I am going with whatever I am feeling at the moment and accepting it.

My heart is breaking for a great blogger friend who just lost her husband. I know we, in the blogger-sphere are all holding her close right now.

I stopped by the store yesterday after collecting the girls from school. Big mistake. I ended up with twice as much as was on my list ... but who can say no? My response while they are putting stuff in the cart ... "why not", "sure", "have had it" ...

My S-I-L is suppose to be here on Friday which is why I am on a cleaning mission. But she might have Covid.

I saw a designer talking about Rose Medallion plates. I have heard of them before and  this time I looked them up.

Upcoming

As David would say when there was something good coming to TV ... "Now you have something to live for". So, there you go.

Pyramids on the horizon

On the plateau overlooking the ancient Pyramids of Giza in Egypt, a major outdoor art exhibition brings together the work of 14 international contemporary artists who have created site-specific installations responding to the iconic monuments. In one project, a new pyramid structure emerges in wicker; in another, glass sculptures appear to make the ancient pyramids float on water.

Forever Is Now III” (on until 18 November) is the third edition of an annual exhibition held at the site, and the biggest yet. Organized by Nadine Abdel Ghaffar, the founder and curator of Cairo-based arts firm Art D’Égypte, the event aims to celebrate ancient Egyptian culture through contemporary creativity.

They also had exhibits in 2021 and 2022.  Some of the images below are from previous shows.

Glassy baby

Amber Cowan's sculptural glasswork is based around the use of recycled, upcycled, and second-life American pressed glass. She uses the process of flameworking, hot-sculpting and glassblowing to create large-scale sculptures that overwhelm the viewer with ornate abstraction and viral accrual.

The line between order and chaos

That headline refers to my life right now too. I have so much to do and I feel like my feet art stuck in the mud. My S-I-L will be here soon so it is essential that I get a few rooms cleaned up. Plus we are cleaning out several areas and I can't find anyone to take FREE, expensive airbrush equipment. Who Knew? Bri is really working hard to keep us on track to clear out the house before they move back.

Having fun keeping up with the clown show otherwise known as the GOP and their attempt to elect a speaker. I am soooo happy the late night guys are back to keep me in stitches at the absurdity of each day. And watching Jenna Ellis say yesterday (teary-eyed) that she had morals and ethics made me laugh so hard my cheeks ached. When will it end? With an election denying house speaker, let's just see how the next election goes.

And then there is the horror going on in Gaza and I can hardly watch anymore death, dead kids or kids crying over their dead parents. I understand Israel wants Hamas GONE but enough is enough. Maybe they have gone a little too far?

Anyway, I need to go clean, make phone calls and clean some more!

Jonathan Calugi achieves the complex but simple line art like a master! His Instagram is fun too. His website is Happy Lovers Town which makes sense when you see how handsome he it.
