Even the smallest of gatherings require preparation. This morning spent gathering up supplies for Father's Day dinner. Leather placemats (I have to rewash them every time I dust them off), washed the dusty red lanterns, decided to go with some cowboy plates we have never used before, giving the table a Black and red theme. Red enamel cups, star placecard holders, and some special cactus/skull salt/pepper shakers. I have collected many pretty, inexpensive salt/pepper sets from Goodwill over the years. Most everyone at a table has their own and does not have to search, ask or reach.
Now waiting for Mason to get here to make the hard decisions about what cups or glasses, help set the table, write out the setting arrangement cards. See if she likes the plate choice. She loves doing this.
The hard part for me is cooking. I am going to made Mac & Cheese from scratch. I have watched several videos and think I can do it. David looked at me with a side-eye when I told him I was cooking. Also making Cornbread Casserole. THIS I know I can make. Chocolate cake. David is cooking ribs. Baked beans from a can. All very basic.
Listening to Escape to the Country while I dust the family room, I think ... why do some of these participants even agree to go on the show when they know they are going to hate every house they are shown?
Since the opening of an airport to commercial service in Everett, we are literally in a flight path. I never in a million years thought Edmonds, WA would watch constant stream of jets coming and going overhead.
Edmonds Art Fair is going on this weekend. It is a joy to go see all the artist and artwork, I love that art fair but I really do not want to go. We have been going for 30 years and the art does not change that much. David is itching to go. Honestly, it just tempts me to buy more crap we have NO room for. I mean, I am still trying to find spots for stuff David bought for Christmas! He does not get this, at all.
Okay, back to dusting, vacuuming and cooking soon. Happy Father's Day!
Oh, and I forgot to mention, the kids got a new puppy yesterday :0
