My kind of book ... no reading required

I am back! Just had some homemade Indian food, talking to Bri about what is going on here and catching up with the dogs. AND the sun is shining.

I would love to own this book, Irma Boom's: The wild and wonderful SHV Think Book, a masterpiece of book design. I have found one used on for $8,000!

 

She also designed this book - Book, No. 5 Culture Chanel, 2013. The Amsterdam-based designer Irma Boom has made some innovative books, and a staggering 20 percent have found a home in a permanent collection at the Museum of Modern Arts.1 Such books are truly an experience — objects to be appreciated — even when they are technically vehicles for other artists. Indeed, Boom pushes the boundaries of bookmaking. In 2013, she completed a book commissioned by Chanel for its Chanel No. 5 perfume. This book is not printed, only embossed, in white. Would love to have this book too!

 

 

I was checking my TIAA account and noticed a ZERO balance! That was a heart-stopping moment. They told me that the company changed from TIAA to Fidelity but had not informed me they were transferring the money. So I called my Fidelity rep that I am pretty close to and he is looking into it for me. Well, that got me going this morning

I laughed when I saw putin commenting on his landslide victory. When you eliminate all of your competition ... landslide victories are sure to follow.

Sorry I have just disappeared. I feel like I have emptied my mind all all thoughts the last week. I finally ran across something that interest me when I discovered Irma Boom ... then my laptop crapped out. 

And she made smaller versions.

I am finally ready to get back to the vacuuming after having a long coffee-drinking morning, with Bri and the girls (fighting). But we did manage to talk about making a free little library in between the crying and yelling. Kate arrives at 9pm, so ONWARD!

The girls help me navigate from one free library to another in our area, using the app. We have given away so many books this way. And we talk about building one to honor David's love of reading. But just talked about it. This morning it was a little more serious discussion about where we might put one on our own property. We have lots of foot traffic which is what makes a free library so special. Any passer-by (neighbor) can take or give a book. I think we are now going to talk to our neighbor and see what they think about one being on our property.

You may have seen a Little Free Library in towns you visit or know of them through the grapevine. They're those wooden structures, often shaped to look like a little house or barn, that house a small collection of books. This non-profit organization started in St. Paul, Minnesota, in an effort to make reading more accessible in communities across the globe. In fact, according to its website, as of today, there are over 150,000 Little Free Libraries. 

The best part about its mission is anyone can choose to set one up. And some areas can have more than one. In Detroit, there are an estimated 500 libraries, as reported by American Libraries Magazine. Installing a Little Free Library starts with a desire to spread the love of reading. But it also requires some prep work and dedication. If you're interested in bringing one into your town, here are some key things you need to know about installing one.

Getting real about aging

Here is the frustrating thing about getting older (old) is that the first thing you ask yourself when desperately wanting something is ...  

DO I REALLY NEED THIS? 

DO I HAVE TIME TO ENJOY THIS? 

I love these illustrators and would love to buy this book, 1959 The Golden Treasury of Myths and Legends Golden Press Hardcover Book / Vintage Mythology Alice Martín Provensen. Sure, it's not that expensive BUT it is just something that will eventually be given away by the kids, along with the thousands of other books in this house? 

I am also really want these plates, to add to the those I all ready have. But do I need them? No. I would buy them for David for Christmas but he isn't here. Will the kids keep them? I mean, they are just $45 but ... same question as with the books. Same with these wonderful rings. I would buy these in a heartbeat! $478.00 with a little lab-created diamond

I remember having many of their children's books. I think looking at these picture books inspired me with the art. To become an artst? Who knows, but I remember being fascinated by them.
