Dan Phillips

Low-income houses built from recycled materials built by Dan Phillips. I had blogged about him when I read NYT's One Man’s Trash ... and then this morning Today had a feature on him.

More about his mission at Clean and some of his homes on flickr. Oh, I would love to work for him for a year (or two or three)and learn a thing or two!

I saw a number of this type of house being designed and built back in the 1970s. In part it came from the post-hippy movement (1965-68) of "back to the land". Publications like the Whole Earth Catalog were filled with alternative ideas and products.

Amazing how long it takes for good ideas to be noticed by the mainstream.
