I drove past then turned around to go back. I have not been in a thrift store in quite a while. But today, on my vacation, with hours all my own, I decided to hop in - have a peek. I had so much fun, that it should be illegal. Found some good stuff, good prices, stuff I don’t need and I spent hours looking for it. Sound familiar, then you are a thrift-store-addict too! I piece together a very cute tea set, gold striped sauces, with gold floral cups, and one gold rimmed plate for cookies, with old tea tin - $5.00. Found more glasses (50 cents each), like the others I have. Four more white damask napkins, 50 cents each. Four very sweet blue dotted small plates for my friend who love those little things (50 cents each). Found lots of games for 25 cents - Monopoly, the coolest Bingo box (with game parts) for 25 cents, Boggle, Flinch - letter, words and numbers for the assemblages I am going to do. I found 25 cent patterns, and lots of books on needlepoint. The coolest thing I found were two books from the Famous Artist Courses from 1950, at home art lessons, 2 for $5.00. Well, those were a must! My thrift store expenditures for today, $35.00 -- worth every penny in sheer fun.
And from the antique store yesterday, found an autograph book. Beautiful passages written ‘To Edith’ in 1893. A colorful Indian coaster for my husband. Popper Word game, with the coolest little discolored tags with different words on them.
Okay, I really need to go back to work and quit shopping!

Talk about the mother lode! I love all those old games you found and for a song too, sheesh. Can't wait to see your assemblage projects.
Our thrift stores here are so overpriced in my neighborhood, you got some great deals! I wish I had handwriting like that, that's gorgeous.
I saw something in a home magazine..that this post reminded me of. There was a woman who collected a very colorful assortment of mis-matched china (teacups, saucers, plates, etc), and had them all displayed together behind glass lighted hutch doors, it was so beautiful. I love looking at collections...they tell so much about a person. :)
Wow, beautiful finds! Love the games, I'm gonna have to look harder for stuff like that around here... :-)
holy cow! i want to go thrifting in your neghborhoood! :O) you made out like a lucky bandit!
That is great stuff. I haven't been to a thrift store in years either. I just can't get over the smell, which is hard to describe, not necessarily a foul smell, but not nice a musty book smell either. I may have to suck it up and try again soon.
No I think the smell is a mixture of odd body odors, but the most prevalent it BABY PUKE. I tell my mom that all the time. I have to breathe through my mouth sometimes! A few I frequent do not have that odor. Some of the Salvation Army locations have 'vintage corner' and they are always priced a bit high.
So, I hope I can do something cool in assemblages, I get stuck sometimes when I start them. But my friend Tara is encouraging me!
what fun stuff you found ... but I like the way you photographed them and posted them on the blog best. It's a really warm and attractive post.
Ah, the joy of thrifting! For me, it's a creative, right-brain experience. Thanks for sharing your booty. I get the feel that it will all fit in perfectly at your home. And now *I* want to go shopping!
I love the old autograph book especially, beautiful handwriting. Me too, looking forward to seeing your assemblages !
1st time visitor. Wow, those glasses are so pretty. You really made a 'haul'. What a fun day.
Maggie Ann: Oh, thank you. That was fun! Come back and visit sometime. Kim
What wonderful finds Kim! I just love garage and auction sale hunting. The glasses look like the ones my mother uses for every day. I will have to ask her what the pattern is. Also, the cups and saucers are lovely! The games remind me one I played while at my parents summer home up in MI over the 4th of July. I is called Racko and we have had the game for 25 years. I still love to play it and all the kids and my parents joined in and we had such a great time. I think you might remember it...
My heart about stopped when I saw the art course - my dad had that and I used to spend hours looking at it and sketching from it when I was a kid. I absolutely recognize the page you turned to - what a neat blast from the past! Thanks!
Hi I'm Sharon and I'm an addict! I love love love to do the Thirt Store search. I have come across some GREAT stuff in my ventures. I love seeing your finds and your pictures of them are also a treat. I haven't been able to find a good store since moving from CA to IA. I used to go to a Goodwill in Gilroy, CA and the manager, Debbie was upset when she found out I was moving away as I was her best customer. Thanks for sharing
Hey! Those are my glasses! Wexford by Anchor-Hocking. They always make me think of my mom and grandma. Great buys!
I love the items you found! Wow you would be one of those people that I would love thift shopping with. Thanks for the pictures. You inspired me.
