Take a seat and make art

I finally decided I will not be able to make enough Brantler's for the craft show in November at the Grey Sky Gallery in Seattle. I was really stressing over that and decided to bite the bullet, write the owner a note of apology. She was very generous and understanding. I just hope I have not burned any bridges there. The girls spent the night last night. Bri has the flu and they wanted to come over. Let the chaos ensue! They are always good when they are here. They both had nice, long baths in bubbles, had grilled cheese and strawberries, watched the movie, Elemental, which I have to say was excellent! And NOTE to self ... wash that nasty melted cheese slice off the plate before it dries, I swear it was like a strong bonding glue. 

Mason and I are watching a A Domestika class on drawing and experimenting, Sketchbook Exercises for Artistic Growth with artist, Sarah van Dongen. I thought it would be good for both of us.

Noah woke up at 4am, which woke me up and then Mason woke up at 5am ... needless to say, I got not sleep last night. The movie is a great take on different cultures learning to live with each other. I love the two main characters, Ember and Wade Ripple.

Here's to the chair

Matt and I hung a cabinet we found in storage unit. I was thrilled to think I could display the miniature chairs again. But after putting a few of them in the cabinet I don't think they will all fit there and now I am confused about what to do. I still have many large ones, and a box full. The cabinet was only a temporary solution but I would like to see them for awhile.

Look at these beautiful chairs by Rustique Interiors 

"Carey Naughton of ‘Rustique Interiors’ graduated with a Ba Hons in Theatre Design from Central St Martins in 1996, and has been a self employed artist ever since. 

‘I work with mostly recycled textiles and furniture using a mixture of appliqué patchwork and embroidery to create figurative but fantastical landscapes, inhabited by a variety of different creatures. I am inspired by the Scottish countryside, seaside and Edinburgh city-scapes. The textile art is upholstered onto vintage armchairs to create one-off pieces of furniture. 

Before the upholstery is done I will scan the textile art and have them printed onto paper, after which I rework by hand with pen & ink and coloured pencils. These are then reproduced in a variety of ways, creating cushions, prints and so forth.’"

Champagne Chair contest is closed but that did not stop me from taking a minute to make a couple of my own. Here are the 2013 winners. Here my three from today. I had to make a Brantler chair.

Found this link on Fab.com the other day. Happy Chair makes me very happy. It has been a very strange week around here. I can't believe the week is almost over. Matt and I talk about doing some of these for us, since he is becoming the master of upholstering. Aren't these yummy?

Given my love of typography and chairs ... well, I just about lost it when I saw what Roeland Otten has created. ABChairs! Sign me up, I want some! Via de zeen.

"ABChairs’ future is one of a industrial manufacturing process, using rotational moulding of LDPE plastic. This way ABChairs will be more affordable for the mass market, lighter in weight, less fragile and suitable for outdoors use. Smaller size ABChairs would also be applicable for children’s interiors, such as libraries and schools."

I have blogged about chaircouture before. I am obsessed with chairs and my friend, Katie and I thought of doing a little business making one-of-a-kind chairs many years ago. I think we both still have many chairs squirreled away in storage ... but work, weddings, marriage, kids, life got in the way of that idea.
