Nanako Kume creates these light fixtures with a custom large-scale pencil sharpener. More here.

Japanese designer Nanako Kume came up with a different idea for making lampshades by continuously scraping a pencil-shaped wood block. The specially built machine looks like a pencil sharpener and works like one as well. The colored shavings can be processed into various sizes and shapes for DIY applications.

Fabulously Green

Found these fabulous things at Fabulously Green. Cut Light, "a beautiful, interactive, pendant lampshade, designed by Monica Singer and perfected by you. Stuart Haygarth has used used old prescription lenses to create an enchanted chandelier called Optical (seen below) and another in 2006 called Spectacle was created from over 1000 pairs of prescription spectacles.

With all the bad news these days it is exciting to announce something free (and fun) from Something To Say. I am hosting a give-away from CSN lighting to one lucky reader. The hardest part was picking from the vast selection of table lamps for this treat. The winner of the contest will be allowed to choose one desired product from two lights being used in the giveaway.
