Kate Rivers work is the image of a nest. The nest is a powerful metaphor suggesting comfort, home, protection and family. She gathers materials from the everyday: posters from urban areas, a variety of maps, old typed or handwritten letters, canceled postage stamps, clothing tags, and some papers that would simply be considered trash. In addition she incorporate items of whimsy and reflections of the everyday. Kate desires to tell a visual narrative with each work that evokes an emotional connection with the viewer.
