With all the bad news these days it is exciting to announce something free (and fun) from Something To Say. I am hosting a give-away from CSN lighting to one lucky reader. The hardest part was picking from the vast selection of table lamps for this treat. The winner of the contest will be allowed to choose one desired product from two lights being used in the giveaway. The lamps are both decidedly different in style but have one common theme associated with all of them, they represent a minimalist, yet modern approach to design that is bold, effective and chic. Donna Reed
Bri and Matt ran back to us at Edmonds Arts Festival and said they had found the perfect thing for D and I ... and after closer investigation ... it as the only booth that I would have really purchased something from for D. It is funny how the kids know our taste so well. Donna Reed vessels of ducks and salmon.
Edmonds Art Festival
Tara and I ventured down to the Edmonds Arts Festival yesterday, saw a few interesting artist, Diane Archer, Janee Linton, Marcio Diaz, mask by Black Eagle and Sherry Buckner. I have some of these Ball Weeds from Red Grass Designs, they change color when the metal rust, sway in the wind and look like some wonderful exotic seedpods.
Garden Inventory
I know, I know, I said I was taking the week off of blogging. But I can't. Not going to happen. I took a couple of days off, does that count?
Taking inventory of the garden today. Peonies are vanishing, hydrangeas are beginning to bloom. Poppies are sustaining. I love many weeds but there is one thing in my yard that I hate ... morning glories! They are everywhere. Taking over!

Unrest
Remarkable photos coming out of Iran, Riots in Tehran, From Twitter to Flickr: Collection of Iran Protest Photos. Although I sympathize with them, I don't think we (U.S.) have a authority or right to meddle in their election results. But we have the right to support their voice. The Guardian Blog following the protest. Using Twitter. The world is so much smaller, more immediate, more responsive because of the internet. I don't think Iran can shut the world out completely.

E-Waste
E-waste or Computer waste slideshow of thousands of discarded computers from western Europe and the US arrive in the ports of west Africa every day, ending up in massive toxic dumps where children burn and pull them apart to extract metals for cash. It will make you feel shame. Ever wonder why I have a house full of old computers, well, the question of what to do with them is one reason. (And that I can't afford new one, the other -- and maybe that is a good thing). Via every day trash, a closer look at what we throw away.

With all of the vinyl records D has, this might be more useful ... iConvert™ USB Turntable or this Ripping Turntable, which burns them directly to CD. All from Brookstone.
My dad gave me a bunch of tapes of very old home movies I am trying to convert into movies. I think this Video Converter might be just the ticket. Just some ideas. ;)
Gosh, I hate it when I got back something and the links are broken, I have fixed these now ;0000 arrgghh.

Dreaming Up A New life
Read this post this morning on {my typography}, Morning comes.
I find I am dreaming a lot about work lately, about being invisible, being frustrated, just worry dreams ... trying to manage my life behind my eyelids. I need to find the discipline I once processed ... coming home from work and doing something for me. Instead I come home exhausted and frustrated and do nothing except worry about getting to bed at 8 p.m., pathetic really. Think about what I should be cleaning or ironing. Think about all the projects I have in some state of "beginning my idea". Worry about the mess I will make in my studio and when I will have time to clean it all up. So, I think it all comes down to TIME. That seems to be my biggest conflict right now.
These are the questions that Christina asked:

What is the greatest thing that stresses you out?

What are three things that made you happy today?
1. Looking at the peonies blooming in the garden
2. Watching my son and his friends going off to have a cook-out at the beach

Of course I would love this story. Homeless Advocate Goes High Tech on NPR tonight. "Homeless advocate Eric Sheptock uses technology to get his message out. Though he's homeless himself, he keeps a blog, a Facebook page and a Twitter account. Sheptock, who lives in Washington, D.C., says he wants to educate the public about what he and many others like him are up against."
