Robin is showing this weekend at Caboom Home Design Show (located at the corner of Wilshire and Santa Monica at the old Robinson's May building beside/behind the Beverly Hilton). Original photography (her new style) in combination with rust and old wood. Stunning. Wish I could be there to see her amazing work. If you are in the area?
This is the last day to enter. I will be announcing the winner late this afternoon.
1. Please send an email to kimberlycarney at hotmail dot com ... with CSN LIGHTS UP in the subject line, with your Name and Address (that is very important). Give away begins June 19th and cut-off date will be June 26th.
2. I will assign your email a number as it is received.
3. I will use Random.Org to pick the winner, announced on June 26th. We will contact the winner via email.
With all the bad news these days it is exciting to announce something free (and fun) from Something To Say. I am hosting a give-away from CSN lighting to one lucky reader. The hardest part was picking from the vast selection of table lamps for this treat. The winner of the contest will be allowed to choose one desired product from two lights being used in the giveaway. The lamps are both decidedly different in style but have one common theme associated with all of them, they represent a minimalist, yet modern approach to design that is bold, effective and chic. Here is some background information about the two lamps that are included in the giveaway:
George Kovacs Cubic One Light Table Lamp
George Kovacs is hands down one of the most famous lighting architects in the modern community. For four decades, George Kovacs and his team of innovative designers have been creating and recreating, never failing to impress the modern lighting community. The cubic one light Table Lamp is no exception to Kovacs’ design legacy. It’s cubic shaped design, sturdy stainless steel base, and brushed nickel arm all fuse together to create an office light companion that is aesthetically appealing, and functionally practical. Still, these features are all second best to the focal point of the light, which is its etched cased opal glass shade, the cherry on top of the sundae, so to speak.
Lights up! RS-491 Rex Wall Sconce
The people at Lights Up Have succeeded in the modern lighting world because of their uncanny ability to differentiate their products from the mainstream. With unique, intricate patterns and intriguing, versatile designs, Lights Up continues to be a leader in the industry. The Rex wall sconce is one of their signature products because it fits right in with their philosophy ; the Rex features an attractive brushed nickel base to go along with a welcoming hand crafted, white linen shade for a simple, yet magnificent design. Lights Up very proudly manufactures their products in Brooklyn, New York with the simple goal of providing a quality product for fans of contemporary and classical style décor, alike.
Good Luck! I will not be blogging for this week ... wow, my first week off in 5+ years of blogging. Thank you, CSN Lighting for this fun experience.
I love discovering new artist, this one a friend of a friend from Belgium. Her name: Cecile Baldewyns, her art: fun! Love the colors and the textures.

Logo-ish image for Illustration Friday. I came home from work and decided to do something quick, fun and frivolous for myself, to remind myself that I can be fun and frivolous and not a grump who seems to do everything wrong.

The separation of Jon and Kate is all over the news and I kept asking ... who are these people and why do we care? Well, I finally watched a little video about the split and someone told me the premise of the show. America, don't we have bigger, more important things to focus on?

Remarkable photos coming out of Iran, Riots in Tehran, From Twitter to Flickr: Collection of Iran Protest Photos. Although I sympathize with them, I don't think we (U.S.) have a authority or right to meddle in their election results. But we have the right to support their voice. The Guardian Blog following the protest. Using Twitter. The world is so much smaller, more immediate, more responsive because of the internet. I don't think Iran can shut the world out completely.

E-waste or Computer waste slideshow of thousands of discarded computers from western Europe and the US arrive in the ports of west Africa every day, ending up in massive toxic dumps where children burn and pull them apart to extract metals for cash. It will make you feel shame. Ever wonder why I have a house full of old computers, well, the question of what to do with them is one reason. (And that I can't afford new one, the other -- and maybe that is a good thing). Via every day trash, a closer look at what we throw away.

Computers are not going away, so I think the creators of such should think of recycling options as they are designing and building them and should have been doing for the last 10 years, don't you?

I find I am dreaming a lot about work lately, about being invisible, being frustrated, just worry dreams ... trying to manage my life behind my eyelids. I need to find the discipline I once processed ... coming home from work and doing something for me. Instead I come home exhausted and frustrated and do nothing except worry about getting to bed at 8 p.m., pathetic really. Think about what I should be cleaning or ironing. Think about all the projects I have in some state of "beginning my idea". Worry about the mess I will make in my studio and when I will have time to clean it all up. So, I think it all comes down to TIME. That seems to be my biggest conflict right now.
These are the questions that Christina asked:
What did you dream last night?
Some work dream
What is the greatest thing that stresses you out?
Money
What are three things that made you happy today?
1. Looking at the peonies blooming in the garden
2. Watching my son and his friends going off to have a cook-out at the beach
3. Practicing calligraphy
Summer snuck up on me and everything bloomed at once while I was at work this week.

Of course I would love this story. Homeless Advocate Goes High Tech on NPR tonight. "Homeless advocate Eric Sheptock uses technology to get his message out. Though he's homeless himself, he keeps a blog, a Facebook page and a Twitter account. Sheptock, who lives in Washington, D.C., says he wants to educate the public about what he and many others like him are up against."
