Tendril Font and calendar

Oh Lord. 5:30pm, Sunday night. I did nothing as far as cleaning house, paying bills (will do next), putting up clothes, doing my (secret) art project. After spending all day learning Wordpress yesterday with Rick, I worked on the website for many hours but my mind turned to unfinished calendars and Rock-On font. Up at 6a and spent all day doing something frivolous and fun. Maybe I need to do these little weekend create projects to build up my self-esteem? To feel like I can actually do something creative, see something in nothing, make it? I don't know what is driving me on the weekends to ignore dirty floors and ironing board. I feel a little guilty wasting an entire day on this, I am calling it, "unrefined vine" font. It is just the beginning, will still need to turn it into a font and make lower case, punctuation marks and numbers. Might need to wait for next year growth to have more tendrils to finish this up.

Last week I was pruning the hydrangeas before dark and started collecting the tendril attachments on the grape vines. Staring at them, with the sky as backdrop, I was imagining someone long ago thinking of calligraphy. I collected as many as I could reach, shot them and turned them into this little alphabet. I admit, it was fun. (But I am still feeling a little guilty about my entire day in front of this computer.)

Also finished up the entire calendar but trying to figure out where to upload it for someone to print out. Am going to print out a couple of calendars, one to send to my S-I-L, Gerrie, my wonderful aunt (Beth) and a couple of other friends. Anyway, still, a work in progress. ;(  Okay, now I see all I did today, it wasn't a total waste of my day. ;)

Blogging generator

The Lazy Bloggers Post Generator is hysterical. Via T h E ~ b L i S s F u L ~ p I x E L. This is my post:

Wholy smoke I just remembered I have not updated this since last year... You would not believe my anguish at my misdoings. Unbelievable.

I am totally exhausted with sleeping my way to the top, hoping you haven't found other blogs, just generally being asleep, dreaming and chancing to anyone unfortunate to cross my path, my day seems to be a litany of stuff and giggles from lunchtime to till I fall into bed at midnight. I am so over it. I need a nap.

I swear on the bones of my ancestors think of me as I battle mine enemies. Until I need your shoulder to cry on. I mean it!.

I am been Pixelinked

I am so excited that my submission for Pixelinked was approved. Thank you!

Andy Gilmore

The magical digital art of Andy Gilmore on Webdesigner Depot. His site and his blog full of eye-popping images.

Kate MacDowell

Portfolio of sculptor Kate MacDowell, stunning and austere. Via NYT's "Is There an Ecological Unconscious?"

"In my work this romantic ideal of union with the natural world conflicts with our contemporary impact on the environment. These pieces are in part responses to environmental stressors including climate change, toxic pollution, and gm crops. They also borrow from myth, art history, figures of speech and other cultural touchstones. In some pieces aspects of the human figure stand-in for ourselves and act out sometimes harrowing, sometimes humorous transformations which illustrate our current relationship with the natural world. In others, animals take on anthropomorphic qualities when they are given safety equipment to attempt to protect them from man-made environmental threats. In each case the union between man and nature is shown to be one of friction and discomfort with the disturbing implication that we too are vulnerable to being victimized by our destructive practices."

Prash: Circumstance

I happened upon this wonderful blog the other day, Prash: Circumstance.

Two Women Talking in Heaven

1st woman: Hi! Angie!

2nd woman: Hi! Sylvia. How'd you die?

1st woman: I froze to death.

2nd woman: How horrible!

1st woman: It wasn't so bad. After I quit shaking from the cold, I began to get warm & sleepy, and finally died a peaceful death. What about you?

2nd woman: I died of a massive heart attack. I suspected that my husband was cheating, so I came home early to catch him in the act. But instead, I found him all by himself in the den watching TV.

1st woman: So, what happened?

2nd woman: I was so sure there was another woman there somewhere that I started running all over the house looking. I ran up into the attic and searched, and down into the basement. Then I went through every closet and checked under all the beds. I kept this up until I had looked everywhere, and finally I became so exhausted that I just keeled over with a heart attack and died.

1st woman: Too bad you didn't look in the freezer -- we'd both still be alive.

Golly Bard

Every night I am I worried about going to sleep on time because it is not my nature to be a morning bird. It is my nature to stay up until 3a and wake up around 11a. I go to be now around 8pm ... tonight, feeling a little more tired than usual was in bed by 7:30 and woken up by the puppy at 8:30p. Tried for an hour to fall back to sleep ;( So now I wait for my 1/2 Tylenol PM to work. So I surf a little and found this wonderful artist.

Beautiful twigs, branches, nests by Golly Bard. Love this feather illustration and Jar of Love No. 21.

That time to dream

When we first started gardening, 18 years ago, plant catalogs delivered in the gloom of January always made me dream of what was possible for the coming seasons. Now you can browse most of them online.

Trying to figure out if I can prune my Carol Mackie Daphne that has become a straggly mess.

Ran across Botany Photo of the Day, where I spotted this amazing plant that has little blossoms on it's seams of the segments ... nature is surprising.

Do I really have space for more? I would really like to have a "Endless Summer" hydrangea, sounds heavenly.

For fall, I really, really, really want to replace some existing bushes with the Burning Bush.

Where could I put a shoe hanger for herbs like this great idea?

And I dream on.

Lee Jang Sub

I know this sounds silly, but I am in love my blog. Given a huge array of colored pencils and I don't know which color I want to draw with first. A large box of chocolates, can't decide which piece of is the best. Like going window shopping in the best shopping city ever and being exhausted from all that your eyes and mind take in.

I traveled back 2008 to find a photo of my uncle and found so many delicious love links that I had forgotten about. Like Lee Jang Sub, take a look at this new work, paper doll installation.

Spelling Change

Spelling Change was developed to harness the power of the creative community to help elect Barack Obama.

We asked artists and designers to create a letter of the alphabet inspired by the Obama campaign. Those letters were then printed on t-shirts and distributed to photographers, who shot Obama supporters from all walks of life wearing them.

Now, you can use this living alphabet to create emails, banners, t-shirts, posters, bumper stickers, and postcards personalized with your own messages of hope and change. You can also help the project grow by adding your own letter.

National Marriage Boycott

National Marriage Boycott and the Equality Ring.

"Students at Stanford University organized the National Marriage Boycott in response to the passage of Proposition 8 and the election of President Obama. These students, who had put tremendous energy into organizing a No On 8 Campaign at Stanford, wanted to create an active and visible way for equality-minded Americans, regardless of sexual orientation, to show their support for equal marriage rights. Thus they created the National Marriage Boycott, in which participants vow to boycott marriage until the federal government repeals DOMA."

Jason de Caires Taylor

Jason de Caires Taylor's underwater sculptures "create a unique, absorbing and expansive visual seascape. Highlighting natural ecological processes Taylor’s interventions explore the intricate relationships that exist between art and environment. His works become artificial reefs, attracting marine life, while offering the viewer privileged temporal encounters, as the shifting sand of the ocean floor, and the works change from moment to moment." OMG, take a look at the gallery, I love the organic nature of change when stuff starts growing on the sculpture. Fabulous, huh?

Mapping yourself

I joined the Arts Maps (Connecting artist) free for one year. (Edmonds, WA). It is fascinating to see how many artist/photographers are in this area and I am sure this is just a hand full that have joined.

Quick glance, I found Alicia Tormey's art blog. And Robert Ernst Marx (view art below) via her blog. I really should be going to First Thursday artwalks more often. Damn getting up at 430a ... takes a bite out of a real life.

Molly Hightower was a young women giving of herself to Haitian orphans. I ran across her blog and cried. Her story and so many others are almost to hard to read about.

Etching

I tried some glass etching this weekend. The darker bottles weren't so successful.

Also began cleaning out the ever messy (beyond messy) sewing room. Gave away (finally) all my favorite linen pants that I haven't been able to fit into for 4 years. *sigh* It was time. The house has become nothing but storage bins and I am really tired of it.

Build Your Own Business Website

Build Your Own Business Website class created by my incredible neighbors, Rick and Laura. In a class he take you from 0 to a functioning, powerful, customizable business website in 8 hours. (I have seen him to this).

I have all ready purchased my domain for Miller-Carney-Miller studio, so I will be spending most of my weekend watching Rick's 6 free videos to get me started before I take his class.

Sarcococca

I know I mention Sarcococca again and again. Under a gray sky, I will walk in the backyard and catch a whiff of the most delicious sweetness and remember. Honestly, if you don't have a Sarcococca, you need one!

Sweetbox (Sarcococca)

It has been a tough week with Haiti and all the horrible scenes coming out of that earthquake zone. It feels good to be home where I feel safe and loved. Not belittled, depressed.

It has stopped raining this morning. The yard is like a lake but I wanted, needed to go explore for a minute. Only to find these sweet little "0"'s left over from seedpods through my lens. Isn't that adorable? Everything in true decay from all the rain. With evidence of buds just peeking out on some branches of Lilacs and Daphne. It looks like growth is still at the base of the peonies I transplanted, so really keeping my fingers crossed that move will be a success.

Got lots of house keeping, unpacking, cleaning to catch up with. Have a great holiday weekend!
