Stopping to ask directions ...

I have been blogging since 2004 with no particular subject in mind except to save fun and interesting links I found along the way. Then to share my photography, some of illustrations (Illustration Friday and photography - photoshop (Self-Portrait Tuesday) or work. Always loving to post about typography, other artist, technology. In other words, I really don't have a theme ... it is hard to categorize me. I am all over the board.

Sometimes I get carried away with my political views but I try not to go there very often. Lately, I have been a downer about the economy and my close, personal struggles finding my new path. I hate it when I do that and am really trying not to go there. Now, with Pinterest, many of my new internet finds get pinned over there. It seems many folks share more on Facebook than on their blog. There are so many blogs out there blogging about stuff I thought I found 2 years ago, it all feels like a repetitive remix right now. I want to stay fresh, relevant and valid! Fun! Interesting! So for those of you who read my blog ... I am asking a favor. Tell me the direction I should go with this blog. More of this or that? Less? If there are any other suggestions, please feel free to leave a comment.

(PS ... I have never used a survey app before ... so I am really interested to see how this works ... or if it does work)  ;)  xoxoxo and thank you!

  • More Tutorials (Illustrator/Photoshop)

  • Enough with the flowers!
  • DYI Home Decor
  • Recipes
  • More links, artists, typography, technology
  • More crafts, sewing, quilting?
  • I like your blog just as is
  • Give it up, you have nothing new to say

  1. No way give it up! (unless it would be better for YOU) I think that is the key. I only like to read blogs that excite the blogger herself.

Isn't it better when it's a place where you share things that get your attention?! I like that best.

  2. Please don't change, I follow your blog since I started blogging, exactly six years ago. Yours is one of the few blog I read regularly, and it is always interesting, personal, inspiring and sometimes amazing. I often wonder why you have so few comments, but comments aren't a yardstick to measure the quality of a blog with. And honestly would you like to have thirty or a hundred or whatever daily comments?
But of course if you feel you NEED to change, try it out.

  3. I voted, I think it counted my vote. I kind of wanted more flowers and recipes but you can't choose more than one and it looks like you cannot vote more than once.

I like it just the way it is.

  4. Oh, you know I have an opinion! Follow your curiosity. How else can you be? I would like to see you in the studio more. You have the very best stash.

  5. Oh Shelley, you know I couldn't give up even if I wanted! I am glad I am still exciting ... reading your blog excites me and gets my attention and wants me to go learn how to make something small and interesting ...

Waltraut, thank you! I know you have been with me for a long time. I wouldn't do well with too many comments because I get that overwhelmed feeling. And you are right, comments are not the goal, can not be the goal. I want to make sure I am still relevant and engaging in the fact that I don't want to become repetitive and boring because I have blogged so long ;) I think BORING is my biggest fear.

  6. Peruby! I found one survey that allowed you to pick more than one choice, but after I set it up, you had to leave to another page to take the survey and I thought one more click was too much. I think more recipes is a good idea. Although my mom isn't blogging her meals, I would love to pass on her tips. She still throws together the best stuff to eat and I wonder, How does she do that? And ask her to tell me so I won't forget. Done, more recipes is a good idea.

  7. Kathy ... well it WAS your comment on the phone the other day about my blog being a bit "dark" that made me start thinking about the state of my blog and the direction, or re-direction I should be thinking about. ;))) So I am blaming you! And it is a good thing. I know I haven't been linking off to exciting things I find because Pinterest (why can I never spell Pinterest correctly the first time?) is making me lazy. I always love you for your insight and honesty ;) xoxoxo

  8. If you don't blog what is truest for you, it won't be inspiring to you, and it won't be inspiring to us.

Be true to yourself. Dark, bright, antlered, floral. All of it. You're like life... with a stylist.

  10. I'm with everyone else- just keep on keepin' on. I don't know how I stumbled into your blog, but it has been so many years now that you're just one of my cyber-standbys. We are close enough in age, geography and general sentiment that, although we have never met, you have become one of the friends I check in with. And you are never boring, by the way.

  11. I am a new and casual reader but I really enjoy what you have to say. I love the art -- yours and others, pets. I worry for when things are looking not so bright, I worry for your Mom when she is ill. I would say don't change, don't stop.
