When I was young I used to believe via Absolutely Small. Very fun! Go have a look at what people believed when they were kids.
Well, I don't have to make this one up. I believed in fairies. When I was very small I lived in an apartment in Dallas, Texas. My mom and I shared a bed, one of those that have a bookshelf attached to the headboard. I woke one night to find little people, fairies, sitting around my head in the book shelf. I was so fascinated watching them, I stayed very still as not to frighten them away. Their voices were so small that it just made tiny trill sounds, but I knew they were talking about me. It was thrilling and I felt so lucky that they were visiting me. I have thought about this event many, many times in my life and I know it was not a dream or an illusion. Somehow, I had this magical visit. For what reason, I don't know. But it happened, to me. The weirder part ... many years I was confiding in my college friend, Faith, telling her of this. She got all quiet and strange and said she had the same encounter when she was young. Coincidence?
When I was young, I believed my mother would marry her long-time boyfriend Jack and we were all live happily ever after. That did not happen, although my mom and Jack remain fast friend until this day. I always cry when he calls to say hello. He will never know how he broke my heart.
When I was young, I thought my step-father loved us so much, that he would quit drinking.
When I was young, I thought if I ate fish, it would make me smarter. I ate a lot of fish.
I thought that something terrible could come up from the drain in the bathtub and grab me.
I ate a lot of fish also...lol.
ReplyDeleteBecause we lived in a community with little or no African Americans, I believed, for a while, that Black people were only on t.v. I wanted to live in a t.v. so I could have a black baby. I thought they were the most beautiful people on earth! (I still believe that beautiful part, and would be delirious if someone gave me a Black grand baby.)
I thought I'd never grow old enough to get married and have kids. The Russians were going to bomb us all, WW3 would ensue and there you go, we'd all die.
When I was young, I believed that something awful lived under my bed. I have to sleep with my feet tucked way up by my bum, because if they got too close to the end of the bed, hands would come up and grab them.
ReplyDeleteWild imagination much? lol **shudder**
ps. you're really lovely, you know. If no one has told you this today, let me.
Okay let me fix this up... 'I HAD to sleep'... I'm over it now. Really. LOL.
ReplyDeleteOh that sent chills down my spine. In a good way. But not surprising since your are such a friend of flowers the fairies must love you.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was small I thought all babies were born by Caesarian section because an adult told me that!
oh my...i had a similar expereince...only my visitors weren't fairies...just little people. i was visiting my grandparents. at first i was facinated by them but then they started to scare me. they disappeared when i crawled into bed with my grandparents. i also don't know if it was a dream or if i was just seeing things or what...
ReplyDeletewhen i was young i used to believe the easter bunny lived in this run-down/grafettied shack on the road to my grandparents...
when i was young i used to believe the term "saved" used in sermons at church meant you were drowning and Jesus saved you...and i couldn't quite figure that out...
