I so love the aesthetic of this place. I want them as neighbors! Better yet, I want to be his mother.
Alex Papachristidisshows us how he uses his dishes and sets a table. Great idea about the "Linen board", keeping all the linens that go together tied together. He is quite the collector!
Mismatched everything on Etsy, Sunny Cottage Joy. I thought about doing this when I was giving away all of my dishes but here is the thing. When you put them up for sale, you still have to keep them around, store them, secure them to mail them ... it seemed like a lot of work to me. But I am so glad that someone IS doing it!
I want a chocolate croissant, I bought some at Trader Joe's.
This guy is hysterical. He makes a lot of rue with a ton of butter. I ran to Trader Joe's and decided I was going to make French Onion Soup. I have never made the rue before, but I tried it this time.
This is simple version. I saute my onions a little darker than this. I also always add a little bit of sugar.
I also made the liver pate. Cooking liver can really be disgusting. But I forced myself through it. It taste okay.
Also cut up my radishes and daikon and pickled them.
It is such a beautiful day here. I was seduced to working in the yard by some sunshine and heat. The Morning Glories are coming back making me very sad.
I have watched some weird things lately but this morning was the topper! The Final Member popped up on Hulu after I watched the current Will Trent while drinking my coffee. About a "Penis museum" and the man who has been collecting them for 40 years. The curator really wants a human speciman so most of the movie focuses on some American and his penis "elmo" and him pursuing getting "elmo" into the museum, even going so far as considering having his penis/tesicles/etc removed while he is still alive. Yes, you read that right! Oh and look, the museum has an Instagram account.
Who wants to tell them that the penis is just not that special.
I watched THE MEANING OF HITLER is a provocative interrogation of our culture’s fascination with Hitler and Nazism set against the backdrop of the current rise of white supremacy, the normalization of antisemitism and the weaponization of history itself. Shot in nine countries, the film traces Hitler’s movements, his rise to power and the scenes of his crimes as historians and writers, including Deborah Lipstadt, Martin Amis, Sir Richard Evans, Saul Friedlander, Yehuda Bauer, and famed Nazi hunters Beate and Serge Klarsfeld, weigh in on the lasting impact of his virulent ideology. As fears of authoritarianism and fascism now abound, the film explores the myths and misconceptions of our understanding of the past, and the difficult process of coming to terms with it at a time in our history when it seems more urgent than ever.
Just as scary and depressing as you thought it might be.
I guess to top this entertaining viewing next would have to be "The Meaning of Hitler's Penis". And if you do a google search on that topic, several articles pop up. Who Knew!
And to end on a fun note:
Oh, I forgot to mention after my weekend nervous breakdown with the kids of clearing out the storage unit, I watched a couple of episodes Hoarders on A&E. I am not sure why, but I want to undestand why it is so hard for some people to get rid of, throw away, give away stuff they no longer need, use, want, or is even usable. I do feel so terrible for the Hoarders, and although I am not as bad as some of them, I do understand their emotions of getting rid of their "stuff". I watched a couple of shows and it makes me understand myself a little better.
Hobo nickels are hand-carved coins that have been cleverly altered by
artists. This style of artwork became especially popular in America in
the early 20th century.
Upon hearing the term "Hobo nickel," a
cartoonish image is conjured. Perhaps of a small scruffy coin with a
stick and bandana sack, meandering along some railroad tracks. You might
also think of a nickel used by a vagrant in some fashion, possibly for
bus fare or food.
A massive art movement is the last thing to come to mind.
The
truth of Hobo nickels is that they are a folk art that carry with them a
rich tradition, history, and artistry that gives them value beyond the
usual coin collecting.
I woke up itching around 330am. Tried to go back to sleep and after that failed, I ended up watching something on YouTube that was new to me. Lord Howe Island, an isolated island with an abundance of wildlife and plants that can only be found there. Of course the more people visit, the more likely we will have a hand in destroying this paradise.
The first reported sighting by Europeans of Lord Howe Island took place on 17 February 1788, when Lieutenant Henry Lidgbird Ball, commander of the Armed Tender HMS Supply, was en route from Botany Bay to found a penal settlement on Norfolk Island.[8] On the return journey, Ball sent a party ashore on Lord Howe Island to claim it as a British possession.[9] It subsequently became a provisioning port for the whaling industry,[10] and was permanently settled in June 1834. When whaling declined, the 1880s saw the beginning of the worldwide export of the endemic kentia palms, which remains a key component of the island's economy. The other continuing industry, tourism, began after World War II ended in 1945.
UNESCO records the Lord Howe Island Group as a World Heritage Site of global natural significance. Most of the island is virtually untouched forest, with many of the plants and animals found nowhere else in the world. Other natural attractions include the diversity of the landscapes, the variety of upper mantle and oceanic basalts, the world's southernmost barrier coral reef, nesting seabirds, and the rich historical and cultural heritage.
The Lord Howe Island Act 1981 established a "Permanent Park Preserve" (covering about 70% of the island). The island was added to the Australian National Heritage List on 21 May 2007 and the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999. The surrounding waters are a protected region designated the Lord Howe Island Marine Park.
I am watching Deadline White House with Nicolle Wallace about the rape allegations of E Jean Carrol against trump trial. Trump can't even be bothered to show up, while she is getting grilled by trump's lawyer.
So like many of you (I am sure) my first sexual experience WAS RAPE. And as many women (girls), I thought, I should not have been in "that" situation to let that happen and just lived with it. I did not share that with anyone, not even my friends.
My best friend in High School was a guy named Barry, and the next day, the boyfriend (rapist) first phone call was to my best friend, Barry, telling him what he had done. Barry pulled me aside later that day to tell me what he had heard from Raymond, he was concerned. I just felt numb. Humiliated. Sad. That my best friend in the world knew what had happened the night before. Barry was mad and sad for me.
But it had happened. The damage was done. And I never had another date with Raymond. Barry and I continued to be best friends for years and years and never spoke of that again. I feel like Barry thought he should have stood up for my character, but honestly, I just wanted the memory of that 3 minute humiliating experience to be forgotten and that I would learn a big lesson from it. Never to let it happen again.
I look for the beauty in nature, patterns, the ordinary. This is my place where I save wonderful discoveries since 2004. Please contact me at kimberlycarney AT hotmail DOTCOM.
