Paint By Number

I found this great paint by number (finished) horse and had to have it for my friend Katie. I have since ask her if she is even in to paint by numbers ;). My husband and I were talking last night how much we liked to do paint by numbers when we were kids. Apparently his father would really embellish and ruin the paint by number feel and it would make he and his siblings mad. I can't really remember finishing one, but I am sure I did. I never really see paint by number kits in the stores anymore, but I thought they were a great idea.

Dan Robbins & Paint by Number History. Various catalogs from paint-by-number kits that paintbynumberz.com has collected. Personalized paint by number kits.

Wow, thanks for sharing those websites. They bring back so many memories. I loved paint by numbers as a kid. My best friend's father had a whole rumpus room (that's what they called a finished basement in the 50 and 60's!!!) covered in some of the paint by numbers shown on those sights! What fun!!

You know, I still can conjure up how those oil paints smelled, and remember how frustrating it was to try to paint accurately with the crappy brushes they gave you. I'm not sure I ever finished one either.

Actually, I bought a pair of zebra paint-by-number thingies last year with the intent of painting them as instructed, and then doing a big red pair of lips on each with red flocking. But that's just me. Does that make me like David's dad? One day I'll get around to it. You know how that goes.

Hey Kim...Paint-by-numbers is a big collectable these days. I'd love to be collecting them myself but we just don't have the room so that puts a damper on that. Thanks for sharing that find! REALLY wish I could go thrifting with you!

Yes, Rita - I think that you and D's dad were in the same paint mode ;)

Paula, that is what I have heard. I usually don't look for them, but this one just called out to me (and it was on sale) Come to WA and we can do the thrifts ;)

There is a Java powered paint by number located at http://www.segmation.com/SegPlayChoose.asp Not quite the same as the real deal but it does bring back memories of the oil paint smell, the paint brush that would never obey my hand.
